EDRADOUR

highland

Minty, nutty and generally heavily sherried.

Scotland has more distilleries that have ceased production than those that still distil today. Many have been knocked down some have been replaced by supermarkets, housing or restaurants. Others sit unchanged from the day they last distilled with a vague hope that one day whisky may run through their stills again.

Edradour is Scotland's smallest distillery and has somehow escaped the wrath of the rationalising accountants. A ray of hope for us who are passionate about whisky! In Summer 2002, the independent bottler Signatory, purchased Edradour Distillery from the spirits giant Pernod Ricard.

Within a few months, the range of whiskies had jumped from one product to several and under new ownership, Edradour will be one to watch. Iain Henderson, the face behind Laphroaig for many a year has joined Edradour to advise on production and take on an ambassadorial role. Iain and Andrew immediately set about making a heavily peated version, called Ballechin, which is dramatic stuff!
