GLEN ELGIN

speyside

"Honey and tangerines" according to Michael Jackson, and "refreshing and restorative".

This distillery is one of several situated on the road between Rothes and Elgin. It was built in 1898 by William Simpson and James Carle the former manager at Glenfarclas.

The distillery was finished just weeks before the infamous Pattison crash which saw a collapse in the market for new make malt whisky. The distillery was sold in 1901, for less than a third of the price it cost to build, to the Glen Elgin-Glenlivet Distillery Co Ltd before eventually coming under the ownership of GuinnessUDV. The distillery produces top quality malt which is often overlooked.
