It is not unknown for the Irish to distil whisky in Scotland. It is widely accepted that the practice of distilling whisky was brought to Scotland across the Irish Sea.

The arrival of Raymond Armstrong, the Irish owner at Bladnoch has re-introduced distilling into the south-west of Scotland. Scotland's most southerly distillery had not produced whisky since it was closed by United Distillers in 1993. However, Mr Armstrong has had the foresight to invest in re-opening Bladnoch, which produced some of the most characterful of the Lowland malts. He has even produced a very peaty version, which should be very interesting!
